ContactPoint RIP

Children's Minister, Tim Loughton, announced in July that ContactPoint, New Labour's sledgehammer to crack the Victoria ClimbiƩ nut, will be shut down at noon today.

The DCSF Database, that aimed to share contact information between those caring for all 11 million children in the country, was a disaster from the outset. The project experienced successive delays and never really allayed fears over data security. It was rolled out to only 15,000 users, out of the initial target of 330,000. Overall, it has proved to be an enormous waste of public money, costing over £235m and it was set to cost a further £41m a year.

Let us hope that they manage to decommission the data successfully!
May it rest in peace.
